Born in Liverpool and living in London / UK, Ben Mandelson is a leading worldmusic freelance record producer working in all areas of world music. He is the co-founder and A&R manager / house producer for the influential GlobeStyle Records label in London. For this label he produced artists in many parts of Europe and other continents - Balkan Gypsy star Ferus Mustafov (Macedonia), Jova Stojiljkovic (Serbia) and Kalesijski Zvuci (Bosnia) among them. Many East African & Indian Ocean recordings ‘in the field’. His production credits for GlobeStyle and other labels such as Music & Words (NL), Piranha (D), Polygram (SF), Sony (JP), Xenophile (USA), World Music Network (UK), Sony/BMG (CZ), Rice Records (JP) have resulted in a large number of releases. His work as a producer for Piranha Records include albums of Lusafrican top singer Bonga (Angola), Klezmer worldstars Klezmatics (USA), masterdrummer of the Nile, Mahmoud Fadl (Egypt), king of the PianOriental Maurice El Médioni (Algeria/France), Nubian allstars Salamat (Egypt), African mbira queen Stella Chiweshe (Zimbabwe), Chamame Maestro Chango Spasiuk (Argentina) and BrassStars Boban & Marko Markovic (Serbia). The 2005 Sony/BMG release by the group Czechomor ‘Co Sa Stalo Nove’ gained Ben & co-Producer Rob Keyloch (with whom Ben works in production partnership) a Platinum Disc. Next to his onsite recording experience absolutely worldwide, he was a founding member of the early wm cult band band 3 Mustaphas 3 and founding director of WOMEX 1994 - 1997; he is now a string-twanging member of Billy Bragg's fabulous orchestra The Blokes."
